Article One Interview, Christian pop music
Our recent chat with one Article One founder, violinist Matt Piche, revealed a bit about the major changes ahead for these pop-purveyors.

Article One's Inpop debut doesn't hit the street until May, but Suite offered up a brief preview last month.

Suite: As brothers who have both been playing for many years, do you find that you are well connected to each other musically? Knowing when a zig or zag is coming from the other?

Matt: Absolutely! When you've played with someone your whole life, you definitely understand where the other person is coming from musically. I wouldn't say that I could predict the notes that my brother would play when we're jamming, but we do know each others likes and dislikes.

Suite: You are such pop masters! What pop bands do you enjoy most?

Matt: Aww... thank you! I would definitely say my all-time favorites are U2 and The Beatles. Recently, I've been listening to The Fray, the new Newsboys record, and some older stuff like Peter Gabriel's "So" album and Burt Bacharach's "Greatest Hits". When I was growing up, my all-time favorite was Steven Curtis Chapman and I listened to whatever was on the radio. I was, and always will be, a fan of great songs, with great melodies, played by great musicians.

Suite: Matt, the violin is such an expressive axe, so powerful in touching and displaying feelings. Any ideas why it is such an underused instrument in current music?

Matt: That's a really good question. This is just my opinion, but I think that when it comes to pop music, violin is often overlooked because the instrument is mainly associated with classical or country music. Personally, I think it works really well in pop music and find myself asking that same question all the time!

Suite: As Article One stands poised on the brink of fame and popularity, what concerns you most about the changes ahead?

Matt: There are definitely a lot of changes coming up, but we're excited about them! We've been very fortunate to sign with Inpop, and they've gone above and beyond the call of duty to look out for us. Once the album is released, we're planning on moving to the states. Even though there will be a lot of work in doing this, being Canadians and all, we can't wait to come to America!

Suite: OK, here’s an easy lob: coffee drink you’re most enslaved to?

Matt: Surprisingly enough, none of us are real coffee drinkers. Nathan hates the taste, and all of us try to limit our caffeine intake and reserve it for long, late drives. We figure that by limiting our casual coffee drinking, we can get a better kick on the road. When we do stop, we generally go to a Canadian favorite ,"Tim Horton's," and get the "double-double", which is a regular coffee with two creams and two sugars.
